  • The human-animal bond at heart

A family practice in every sense

Independent in ownership.
Connected in care.

Highland pairs current, evidence-based veterinary medicine with the warmth of a neighborhood practice. Our defining strength is human: the relationships among patients, families, and the people who care for them.

Knowledgeable yet kind.
Clinical yet caring.

Medical competence and genuine empathy belong together.

You should feel comfortable asking questions, sharing what you notice, and understanding why a recommendation makes sense.

Prevention comes first

We plan for health, not only respond to illness. Everyday care, early observations, and appropriate monitoring help shape the years ahead.

Your pet sets the plan

Age, lifestyle, clinical evidence, and your family's goals all matter. Personalized medicine is a considered recommendation, not a one-size-fits-all checklist.

A relationship over time

From puppy and kitten visits through senior, comfort, and end-of-life care, Highland supports both the patient's health and the family's experience.

Built here, growing here

Family roots.
A forward-looking practice.

Our story starts before the Highland name. The Gormley family's early practice, the Stringtown years, and the clinic on Darmstadt Road are distinct chapters of one local veterinary legacy.

  1. 1973

    The first chapter

Dr. Gormley began practicing veterinary medicine. That work established the foundation for a veterinary legacy in Southwest Indiana — before Highland Veterinary Clinic itself was built.

  2. 1978

    The Stringtown years

Stringtown Veterinary Clinic began as a small, mixed-animal practice in a strip mall about two miles from today's Highland clinic.

  3. 1986

    Highland's chapter begins

Highland Veterinary Clinic was built. As veterinary medicine grew and evolved in the community, the family practice found the home on Darmstadt Road that Highland knows today.

Experience, carried forward.

An established history and professional curiosity can grow together. Highland's commitment is to preserve the familiarity families value while continuing to learn, refine care, and use current medicine thoughtfully.

Highland's emblem depicts a person, cat, and dog inside a complete circle

Animals. People.
A shared home.

The human, cat, and dog in Highland's emblem remind us that veterinary care is also relationship care. The complete circle reflects stability and whole-life support.

That perspective reaches beyond an appointment: into family life, veterinary teamwork, community education, and the place we call home.
